HM1 Tilt Head for Monopod | 1-Axis

While this monopod head can support the weight it does so without allowing the rig to have good balance. This is because the design puts all the weight on the top, and the lens will flop forward or backward even if it is centered. The tension knob needs a finer adjustment too because it's difficult to get a smooth action without having it too tight or too loose. You're constantly pulling down on or lifting up the weight of the rig to keep it on your subject. It is uncomfortable to hold your camera onto a subject waiting for that decisive moment of action. A better choice for 400 F2.8 sized lenses would be the PMG GT2 Tomahawk or a Wimberly MH-100

I thought for the price, the tension knob would gear drive the tilt operation- but was not to be.

I purchased the HM1 tilt head for monopod along with the TR34M carbon fiber monopod to support a Sony 600mm F4 lens on a recent birding trip to Panama. I've struggled to hand hold this beast of a lens in the past. I'm 75 years old and still in pretty good shape but needed extra help. The tilt head and monopod combo worked great and I did not tire after several hours in the field. It took me some practice to maneuver when the monopod was fully extended or when I was in tight quarters (like in the back of a truck with others) but after some practice I could get the shots I wanted. After investigating various strapping and carrying options this was the best setup I've used and I highly receommend everyone with a large lens consider this option. You will not be disappointed.

Lightweight, sturdy build, made in USA. Love the tilt function. I would’ve liked a bit of a swivel instead having to tur. Using entire monopod - otherwise great!
